Setting up and designing small rooms is anything but easy. But with a bit of creativity and a clever choice of furniture, you can make even unassuming, small rooms look bigger.
Setting up small rooms in an apartment has already left many people in despair: Too many items with too little storage space at the same time is a common problem. There are certainly tips and tricks on how to decorate a small living space and not only creates a cozy oasis, but also creates a lot of space.
Basic tips for small spaces
In small rooms, access bright, cool tones, such as white or beige. These make the room look bigger. In addition, you can paint the ceiling slightly brighter than the wall and thus create optical height.
Square to the ceiling you win with high fitted wardrobes. At the top, you can accommodate things that are less common, such as Christmas decorations. Built-in wardrobes are particularly suitable for niches and unused room corners. There they integrate perfectly into the environment and create useful storage space.
Multifunctional furniture is the future of living. With smaller and smaller apartments, these can work wonders. Thus, the dining table in the living room can be used as a desk at the same time, or the dresser in the bedroom as a dressing table. More and more furniture designers attach importance to multifunctionality, which is mainly made possible by folding, sliding and pulling elements. This allows modular furniture to be easily enlarged or reduced again if necessary.
Even when decorating you should be careful not to overload small spaces with objects. This quickly becomes difficult and visually reduces the space. Instead, it makes sense to deliberately minimalist and reduced to decorate. Because here, too, less is more.
Large mirrors can become true wonders in small rooms. Because these reflect daylight and visually expand the space.
Asymmetric shower and bathtubs
A standard size bathtub of 170 by 75 centimeters usually does not fit in small bathrooms. But that does not mean that they have to do without a bathtub completely. Because space saving baths can help. Corner baths fill room corners perfectly and storage space is created around the tub. Asymmetric baths narrow towards the foot and can therefore be installed next to the front door, for example.
Even with the shower trays, there are a lot of options from which you can choose. A special alternative is to dispense with the shower tray, to provide the shower floor with tiles and to install in the floor a shower channel or a floor-deep drain. This creates more floor space when you’re not showering, and a shower screen that can be swung away provides privacy protection when needed.
Often children’s rooms do not offer much space. In order to keep order there, it is important to create as much space as possible. Because in a tidy room, it can play a lot better and even the little ones know exactly where to find what.
A loft bed is popular with both parents and children. Because of the raised bed more storage space is created and the scope underneath can act either as a cave or rest corner. If the bunk bed is still themed and has a slide, you can experience adventure even in a small space.
In bedrooms we spend a lot of our time. To make us feel very comfortable in this, the furnishings should be appealing and not confined. Be sure to include only the most elemental items such as bed, lamp and wardrobe. Everything else distracts and makes relaxing easier.
Underbed Chests are a wonderful way to store winter and summer clothes, sheets or fresh towels. These usually measure 80 x 37 x 60 centimeters and reliably hold dust thanks to the lid.
A large closet is worth the investment. It offers all the drawers, shelves on the floor and clothes rails and thus offers enough space for clothes, but also for other utensils. Make the most of the inside of the cabinet, for example by placing boxes on the bottom of the cupboard where you can store socks. The interior doors can also be used on some models. The living room
The living room is the space in which we usually spend the most time actively – which makes it all the more important to make it as space-saving and comfortable as possible.
Forget about bulky furniture that makes the room look small and heavy. Instead of a giant sofa, you prefer to combine a sofa with armchairs or chairs. The advantage: chairs can be moved without problems and put in the dining room if necessary. If you often visit, it is also worthwhile to buy a sofa bed. This can be easily folded out when needed, otherwise it serves as a normal couch.
Small kitchens are commonplace in major cities. It is all the more important in these cases to use the small space as generously as possible. Mobile kitchens, which consist of individual small modules, create flexibility. Take advantage of the gaps and create storage space.
Cabinets with different depths can be optimally integrated into a corner and still make room for plates and cups. But also an extendable rondel in the corner cabinet makes storage area accessible, which one would otherwise only come through laborious stooping. Turning in and out makes access easier.
